All Harvard Undergraduates are always welcome to audition for the opportunity to play in one of the jazz bands. Auditions are held formally in the fall of the year during Freshmen Orientation Week and throughout the year by appointment.
Audition requirements consist of the following:
- Play a jazz tune or head of your choosing.
- Sight read excerpts from big band charts.
- You may improvise over a piece of your choosing, if you desire.
*NOTE: If you are auditioning for the Jazz Band Rhythm section, please plan to audition between 5-6 pm on Sunday, September 10. If you cannot make this time, contact Director of Jazz Ensembles Yosvany Terry at firstname.lastname@example.org.
NEW FOR 2017/2018: Consider enrolling in Music 18 to receive credit for your participation in the jazz bands! See a syllabus and more here (you must use your Harvard credentials). You must enroll consecutively in the fall and spring semesters to receive one credit, and only four semesters can be taken for credit, for a total of two credits.
Prospective students: Please contact the directors or a band manager for information on scheduling visits to rehearsals.
